POEM: WHAT HAVE WE BECOME?
POEM ON THE I DONT CARE NATURE OF THE SOCIETY

Gone are the days,
When we saw each other with a friendly gaze,
Communally basking in the energy provided by the suns rays,
while laughing and cheering as we went our ways,

Being your brothers keeper was wise and noble,
You strived to be right even when logically impossible,
Respect for our family’s pride made us courteous and humble,
And helping out no matter how little was termed responsible,

And suddenly our values changed,
Our pride and dignity on materials hinged,
Evil doers celebrate in the streets unchallenged,
While the rightful heirs have had their once bright future brutally munched,

We are now filled with greed,
And its shows even while we feed,
Because we don’t care for who we bleed,
Just as long as we meet our need,

The tale of the good Samaritan has long become fiction,
Doing wrong is now a moral addiction,
Stealing and corruption is now part of our national diction,
And we painfully go about claiming its a global condition,

I beg we take a stand,
But not like Libya or the Egyptian rebel band,
I humbly plead we fight with weapons of truth and integrity to uphold our motherland,
And like our heroes past restore the glory of our withered right hand.
