Despite the four-month ASUU Strike and other nuances going on in Nigeria, development of education sector must go on. The 26-member Imo State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, has accepted the first reading of the executive Bill on the establishment of the Imo Marine University, Osemoto, Oguta Local Government Area.
The Majority Leader, Mrs. Adaku Ihuoma (Aboh Mbaise constituency), who read the Bill on the floor of the assembly, noted the economic and social benefits of the university if put in place, adding that the academic needs were enormous.
Hon. Ihuoma stressed that the advance learning in marine related areas would be a plus to the nation and beyond.
Hon. Simeon Iwunze (Isiala Mbano), a lawyer, opined that a three- man committee be set up to visit the eligibility of the proposed site in Osemoto, Oguta LGA, which is expected on on November 25, 2013.
After hearing the views from the contributors, the speaker said the establishment of the institution would improve human lives, okayed the committee to go with the project.
The agency funding the project is Imo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (ISOPADEC).
