THINKING ALOUD: WHAT IS FGC UGWOLAWO ALUMNI MEETING ABOUT?

FGC UGWOLAWO MEETINGThis question is often asked by some old students when invited to attend the alumni meeting of FGCUOSA (Federal Government College Ugwolawo Old Student Association). Find my answer below.

In Ugwolawo, we have UREDO, UFEDO, UDAMA and OGECHA house. I hope you can still remember their meanings?

The old student Association is founded on LOVE, it is intended to bring about Peace, Unity and Progress of our nation – this is the ultimate reason why the Unity schools were established.

Remember those days when we were in school, our parents travelled to attend PTA meetings. Those meetings were aimed at developing the School. Now as grownups, Alumni’s we have the privilege of been part of the noble vision of developing the School, not as PTA members but as Alumni’s.

By coming together as one, we are true to the words we chant in the school Anthem…. “….To you praise be forever, Federal Government College Ugwolawo, my Almamater, my almamatar”.

To neglect the ideals, objectives of FGCUOSA is to neglect the pillars of our foundation.

The meetings provide an avenue to interact socially, make new friends and reunite with old ones. It is an opportunity to connect with business, job opportunities etc

The Lagos Chapter meetings is scheduled for the last Sundays of every month (Jan – Nov), this amounts to 11 meetings in a year. I have no doubt that we have a large number of old students resident in Lagos.

It is heart breaking to know that out of 365days many alumni’s cannot spare 11 days to attend the alumni meeting.

What keeps you from attending?

  • The Venue?
  • Job Schedule?
  • Church activities?
  • Your financial situation?
  • Arrogance, Pride, low self esteem and negligence.

The excuses listed above are not enough to justify absence from 11 meetings, except for “arrogance, pride, low self-esteem and negligence”. Out of 11 meetings, you can make a commitment to attend at least four (4).

This appeal extends to all old students of FGCU, alumni meetings hold in Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Anambra, Lokoja, Abuja etc make a commitment to be part of a progressive, positive and worthy course.

Coming together to achieve a common goal is the hallmark of any great society.

I look forward to see you at the Next meeting. Find the details below
